In the first five months of 2026, the domestic market has already launched 544 new car models—far exceeding the total of 84 models introduced throughout the entire year of 2015. During the same period, only 43 new smartphone models were released domestically. The Beijing Auto Show has announced it will shift from a biennial to an annual event, with the 2027 edition scheduled to take place in the same month as the Shanghai Auto Show. Automakers are rolling out new models at an accelerated pace primarily due to pressure on sales and revenue. Some companies are securing new orders through model updates or launch events, and minor facelifts of certain vehicles have indeed boosted sales, reinforcing an industry-wide reliance on the cycle of “launching new cars → generating buzz → driving sales.” However, the sheer volume of launches and product homogenization have confined marketing efforts largely within automotive and media circles, making it difficult to effectively reach potential car buyers.
