The new generation of the BMW X5 will be offered in a long-wheelbase version not only for the Chinese market but also introduced in India. Previously, BMW launched long-wheelbase variants of the 3 Series, 5 Series, and iX1 in India—models initially developed for China—that have all received strong market responses locally. Indian luxury car buyers commonly employ professional drivers and place high importance on rear-seat space and legroom, prompting BMW to further expand its lineup of long-wheelbase models in India. The all-new X5 is scheduled for its global debut on June 30, offering multiple powertrain options including gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions, with production set to begin in late summer or early autumn of 2024. Additionally, a hydrogen fuel cell variant is planned for launch in 2028. For the Chinese market specifically, BMW has confirmed it will introduce a dedicated long-wheelbase X5 in 2027, equipped with an advanced driver-assistance system co-developed with Momenta. This model is expected to carry the internal codename G78.
