Stellantis Group plans to launch a new large Jeep SUV, produced in China, in the European market by no later than 2030. The vehicle, co-developed by Stellantis and Dongfeng Motor Corporation, will be manufactured at Dongfeng’s plant in Wuhan. This move marks a shift from Stellantis’ previous strategy of exiting local production in China, as current CEO Antonio Filosa has revived cooperation with Dongfeng. Fabio Carta, Head of Jeep Europe, stated that by the end of 2030, Jeep’s model lineup in Europe will expand from the current two models to six, including the already launched Avenger and Compass, as well as the all-electric Recon model set to debut next year. Due to Europe’s stringent emissions regulations, the Wrangler has been withdrawn from the region, with no plans currently in place for its reintroduction. Additionally, Stellantis and Dongfeng plan to establish a joint venture enabling Dongfeng to produce its own-brand vehicles at Stellantis’ factory in France. Meanwhile, Stellantis is also deepening its partnership with Leapmotor. As one of Stellantis’ four priority investment brands—and the only one with global recognition—Jeep plays a pivotal role in the group’s ongoing transformation. Addressing consumer concerns about Jeep models made in China, Carta emphasized that although Jeep is an American brand, it is also a global one, and the new vehicle will fully retain Jeep’s core characteristics across all aspects.
