Volkswagen’s Cariad Launches Berlin Software Campus, Focused on AI-Powered Autonomous Driving and Voice Interaction

Cariad, the automotive software company under the Volkswagen Group, recently officially inaugurated its automotive software campus in Berlin. The campus will bring together around 1,000 AI engineers from seven global locations, serving as the central hub for Cariad’s AI development strategy within the Volkswagen Group. Currently, two near-production-ready AI platforms are each linked to specific vehicle models. Key R&D focuses at the campus include AI-powered environmental perception for autonomous driving and AI-based voice interaction technologies. An AI-driven driver assistance system is being advanced for series production on the Volkswagen ID. EVERY1 model, while the AI-powered voice assistant—Digital Assistant—will first debut on the Porsche Macan and Cayenne Electric before rolling out across other models in the Group’s portfolio. The Berlin campus forms part of Cariad’s global R&D network, which also includes sites in Mountain View, USA; Bangalore, India; and Shanghai and Hefei, China. The inauguration ceremony was attended by top executives including Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, and Peter Bosch, CEO of Cariad.
