Starting July 1, 2024, Wuhan, Hubei Province has implemented a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) pricing mechanism reform, allowing owners of new energy vehicles to participate in power grid regulation through private charging piles equipped with V2G functionality and connected to designated platforms. Previously, V2G participation was limited to pilot programs at specific public charging stations; under the new reform, residents can now "sell electricity" from their own parking spaces. The mechanism leverages time-of-use electricity pricing—encouraging vehicle owners to charge during off-peak hours and discharge back to the grid during peak hours—to help balance grid load and generate income.
