At the launch event for the new M-Hero M817 on June 27, 2024, Jin Yuzhi, CEO of Huawei's Intelligent Automotive Solution BU, revealed that over a year ago, when relevant Chinese government ministries and commissions were conducting research on whether Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system could enter the Chinese market, he explicitly expressed his support for its prompt entry during a meeting. The newly launched M-Hero M817 is equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 intelligent driving system and offers an optional 896-line LiDAR, with prices ranging from RMB 299,900 to RMB 399,900. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Tesla has recently been hiring on-road autonomous driving test technicians in multiple regions across China, signaling an accelerated pace for FSD’s deployment in the Chinese market. Under standard procedures, once testing is completed, the collected data will be submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT); upon approval, the FSD software can then be pushed to vehicle owners.
