Audi plans to launch an all-new, fully electric A4 sedan in 2028, reviving the A4 nameplate to re-enter the segment occupied by the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The vehicle will adopt Audi’s Concept C design language, making it one of the first production models to feature this new aesthetic. Inside, the cabin will be refined with fewer screens and a return to physical buttons to enhance perceived quality. Built on the Volkswagen Group’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), the new A4 will be among the first models from the group to utilize this architecture. In September 2023, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner acknowledged that the previous naming strategy—assigning odd numbers to internal combustion engine vehicles and even numbers to electric models—was a mistake. Going forward, Audi will revert to its traditional naming system: the “A” series for sedans and the “Q” series for SUVs, with numerical designations reflecting the vehicle’s class. Additionally, Audi CTO Rüdiger Möller emphasized that the Avant wagon body style is a core part of the brand’s DNA and explicitly affirmed Audi’s commitment to continuing this tradition.
