Nissan Motor reported global sales of 229,870 vehicles in May 2024, down 10.3% year-over-year. Domestic sales in Japan totaled 25,967 units, a 6.4% decline, while overseas sales reached 203,903 units, down nearly 11%. From January to May 2024, Nissan’s cumulative global sales amounted to 1,265,662 vehicles, a 6.4% decrease compared to the same period last year. Domestic sales in Japan totaled 79,911 units, down 3%, while overseas sales reached 1,085,751 units, down 7%. By region, sales in China stood at 199,867 units, down 11.4%; North American sales totaled 564,325 units, down nearly 2%, including U.S. sales of 412,094 units (down 1.1%), Canadian sales of 43,338 units (down nearly 14%), and Mexican sales of 108,364 units (a slight increase). European sales totaled 136,586 units, down 13%, while sales in other overseas markets combined reached 184,973 units, down more than 11%. In terms of production, Nissan’s global vehicle output from January to May 2024 totaled 1,106,658 units, down 5.2% year-over-year. Domestic production in Japan was 238,590 units, down nearly 2%, while overseas production totaled 868,068 units, down 6.1%. Production at Nissan’s U.S. plants reached 256,091 units, up 22%; Mexican plant output was 205,445 units, down 27%; Chinese plant output totaled 195,844 units, down 7.5%; UK plant output was 110,756 units, up 2%; and combined output from plants in other countries totaled 99,932 units, down more than 10%. During the same period, Nissan’s domestic vehicle exports from Japan totaled 140,605 units, up over 4% year-over-year. Exports to North America reached 67,652 units, up over 14%, while exports to other regions totaled 72,952 units, down 3.4%.
