Li Auto has recently restructured its organizational framework, planning to split certain key functions from its Product Department and integrate them into the R&D division to streamline product decision-making processes. This adjustment primarily affects core product definition teams focused on electric vehicle (EV) platforms and autonomous driving. Specifically, the EV Platform Definition team from the Product Department has been formally merged into the Vehicle R&D Department led by Liu Liguo, while the Autonomous Driving End-Product team has been integrated into the Foundation Model R&D team headed by Zhan Kun. Previously, Li Auto’s vehicle product definition required collaborative decision-making across three departments: the front-end Product Line Department led by Liu Jie, the mid-tier Platform Product Definition Department overseen by Fan Haoyu, and the back-end R&D teams. The latest restructuring aims to simplify this process by eliminating the platform product definition layer, reducing vehicle product decisions from a three-department model to a streamlined collaboration between just the Product Line and R&D departments—effectively “returning product definition to R&D.” This year alone, Li Auto has implemented multiple organizational adjustments. In January, the company consolidated its R&D teams along strategic directions such as foundation models, software platforms, and hardware platforms. By the end of May, it further established three new sub-departments under the Foundation Model division—Embodied Engineering, Embodied Interaction, and Embodied Behavior—to advance its embodied intelligence initiatives.
