The latest server-side code from Apple reveals that Volkswagen is planning to integrate Apple Wallet’s digital car key feature into its future vehicle models. It remains unclear which specific models will be involved and when the feature will become available. Apple Wallet’s digital car key allows users to lock and unlock their vehicles, remotely start the engine, and pre-condition the cabin (e.g., turn on the air conditioning) using an iPhone or Apple Watch. To date, this Apple feature is compatible with vehicles from multiple brands, including Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Buick, BYD, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Lynk & Co, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Nissan, Porsche, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Zeekr.
