AITO M9 Upgrades LiDAR and Side Camera Layout to Enhance Perception

The Aito M9 is equipped with six LiDAR units, including four high-precision solid-state LiDARs, one 896-line imaging-grade LiDAR, and one co-aperture in-cabin LiDAR. The 896-line LiDAR and the in-cabin LiDAR together form a forward-facing dual-redundant matrix. Through collaborative complementarity and cross-validation, if the performance of the primary 896-line LiDAR degrades due to obstruction by rain, mud, or snow, the in-cabin LiDAR acts as a backup, enhancing obstacle detection accuracy and improving the precision, stability, and confidence of forward perception. Additionally, the vehicle’s side cameras have been relocated from their traditional position on the front fenders to the C-pillars, creating a high-mounted visual perception system. This repositioning optimizes the camera mounting locations and viewing angles, increasing both the height and range of lateral perception. As a result, the system can detect sudden events—such as vehicles cutting in abruptly, pedestrians crossing, or non-motorized vehicles darting out—earlier in urban driving scenarios, enabling timely warnings and evasive maneuvers. This modification also enhances the safety of advanced driver-assistance functions in complex situations like lane changes, merging from side roads, and navigating intersections.
