Toyota Motor North America announced on July 6 that it will invest $3.6 billion to build a new Tacoma pickup truck assembly line at its plant in San Antonio, Texas. Currently, the Tacoma is produced at a facility in Baja California, Mexico, and that production capacity will be transferred to the San Antonio plant over the next four years. The San Antonio plant, originally opened in 2003, currently serves as the sole production site for the Tundra and Sequoia models and also houses a rear axle manufacturing facility set to begin operations in fall 2024. The new second assembly line will add 2.5 million square feet (approximately 232,000 square meters) to the plant, doubling its overall size by 2030 and creating 2,000 new jobs.
