Tesla Cybercab Features Upgraded FSD Hardware with Over 32GB RAM, Enables Level 4 Autonomy

Tesla is equipping its autonomous Cybercab robotaxi with more powerful Full Self-Driving (FSD) computing hardware. The vehicle, which has eliminated traditional controls such as a steering wheel and pedals, entered mass production in April 2024 at Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas. According to reliable sources, the FSD computer onboard the Cybercab significantly surpasses the current HW4/AI4 platform used in the Model 3 and Model Y in terms of memory capacity. The existing AI4 platform uses two chips, each with 16GB of RAM, totaling 32GB; the Cybercab’s memory capacity has been confirmed to exceed this figure. It remains unclear whether the Cybercab uses a pre-production version of the AI4+ chip, an integrated solution combining two AI4 motherboards, or—though highly unlikely—an early prototype of the yet-to-be-mass-produced AI5 chip (expected to enter volume production in 2027). Tesla previously disclosed that the AI4+ platform will feature a total of 64GB of RAM to support larger-scale autonomous driving neural networks. This upgrade aims to address the growing computational and memory demands driven by continuous FSD system iterations and ensure the Cybercab maintains sufficient compute headroom for years to come. Tesla’s recently released Cybercab Emergency Response Guide explicitly states that the vehicle supports SAE Level 4 autonomous driving. The company has already begun public road testing of the steering-wheel- and pedal-free version in Austin and stated in its 2025 Impact Report that the Cybercab will serve as the primary model for its autonomous ride-hailing fleet, leveraging its simplified cabin architecture to reduce vehicle weight and operational costs.
