At the 21st Shanghai International Automotive Manufacturing Technology & Materials Exhibition, a senior executive from the Advanced Technology Research Institute of Dongfeng Motor Corporation’s R&D General Institute outlined the company’s progress and roadmap for solid-state battery deployment. According to the plan, Dongfeng will launch 100 demonstration vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries by the end of 2024, achieve small-scale mass production of vehicles with solid-state batteries around 2030, and reach large-scale mass production and widespread adoption by approximately 2035. The company successfully completed winter vehicle testing in January 2024 for its solid-state batteries with an energy density of 350 Wh/kg and plans to begin vehicle integration in the fourth quarter of this year. By 2027, Dongfeng aims to deliver 50,000 vehicles featuring its self-developed solid-state batteries to the market, while simultaneously advancing the implementation of fast-charging solid-state battery vehicles and initiating pilot production of 350 Wh/kg fast-charging solid-state batteries. Additionally, in June 2025, Dongfeng established and commissioned a solid-state battery laboratory and a 0.2 GWh pilot production line, creating a comprehensive R&D and manufacturing base that spans “laboratory—prototype line—pilot line,” thereby establishing a full chain from technology development to mass production. The company has achieved 100% self-reliance across all core technologies—from electrodes and solid electrolytes to full battery pack integration. Currently, its 350 Wh/kg solid-state batteries are already capable of stable, high-volume production.
