Wholesale data for passenger vehicles released on July 8 showed that new energy vehicles (NEVs) dominated the sales rankings in June. The BYD Song topped the chart with sales of 79,280 units, securing the No. 1 spot among family SUVs for the second consecutive month. A total of 21 models surpassed 20,000 units in sales during the month—five more than in May—reflecting intensified delivery efforts by automakers during the mid-year sales push. The Tesla Model Y ranked second with 56,454 units sold, followed by the BYD Yuan UP at third place with 54,223 units. Multiple BYD models featured prominently on the list: both the Dolphin and Seagull exceeded 25,000 units in monthly sales, catering to urban commuting and household needs. Models from Geely, Leapmotor, Xiaomi, Li Auto, and others also consistently surpassed the 20,000-unit mark. New launches such as the Xiaomi SU7, Li Auto i6, and Leapmotor A10 continued to ramp up deliveries, driving concurrent growth among both traditional domestic brands and new EV entrants. The number of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles on the list declined sharply, with only a few models like the Chery Tiggo 7 and Geely Bin Yue making the cut—aligning with the broader contraction trend in the ICE retail market. Data indicates a clear shift in consumer preference toward NEVs. The BYD Song’s sustained market leadership stems from its balanced combination of spacious interior for families, flexible plug-in hybrid capability, and pricing accessible to average households, making it well-suited for both urban commuting and long-distance travel.
