He Zhiqi, Executive Vice President of BYD Company Limited, responded to concerns regarding the water-wading safety of new energy vehicles. He stated that, in theory, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have superior water-wading capability compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles because they lack an engine intake and exhaust system, eliminating the risk of engine damage caused by water ingress. However, this advantage depends on the entire vehicle—particularly the battery pack—meeting specified sealing and protection standards; inadequate waterproof design or manufacturing could still pose safety hazards. He noted that BYD’s self-developed Blade Battery packs achieve IP67 and IP68 waterproof ratings, enabling them to remain submerged in one meter of clean water for 24 hours without incidents such as fire or electrical leakage. Their reliability has been validated through multiple rigorous tests. Nevertheless, he cautioned users that even with high-level waterproofing capabilities, they should avoid driving into deep water. If floodwater exceeds half the tire height or the depth is uncertain, drivers are advised to detour to ensure safety. Additionally, BYD has introduced five dedicated service measures to support users throughout the vehicle ownership lifecycle—from product to service—including 24/7 roadside assistance, warranty coverage for the "three electric" systems (battery, motor, and power electronics), extended validity of the first complimentary maintenance service, free home inspections of residential charging stations, and dedicated claims and repair follow-up services.
