On the morning of July 10, during a media session following the launch event of the NIO ES8 five-seater variant, NIO founder, chairman, and CEO William Li, along with co-founder and president Qin Lihong, revealed that according to retail data, NIO surpassed BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi (collectively known as BBA) in sales across 48 cities and regions nationwide in May. In terms of pricing, NIO’s average transaction price in May reached RMB 382,200, already exceeding that of BBA and other luxury brands. This figure further rose to RMB 443,000 in June, widening NIO’s lead. Li stated that NIO has not only made progress in sales volume but has also comprehensively overtaken BBA in average transaction price per vehicle. Additionally, over 68% of ES8 buyers upgraded from previous ownership of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, or Porsche models. When including other secondary-tier luxury brands, this proportion is even higher.
