China's First Vehicle Export Testing Base for Hot and Humid Climates Launches in Hainan

China's first dedicated export testing facility for vehicle performance under hot and humid conditions officially commenced operations on July 9 in Qionghai City, Hainan Province. Designed specifically to replicate the high-temperature, high-humidity climates of regions such as Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America, the facility features simulated wet-hot environmental test scenarios—including rain and fog—and is capable of conducting insulation and dielectric strength tests on high-voltage batteries and wiring harnesses of new energy vehicles under high-humidity condensation conditions. The initial phase includes six test tracks equipped throughout with intelligent sensing infrastructure, including roadside communication units, millimeter-wave radar, LiDAR, and edge computing modules, enabling type approval verification and overseas hot-humid condition simulation testing for export-bound vehicles. The launch of this facility aims to shorten overseas testing cycles for domestic automakers and enhance technical support capabilities for China’s automotive exports. According to data, in June 2024, China exported 1.037 million vehicles, up 11.6% month-over-month and 75.1% year-over-year. Of these, 523,000 were new energy vehicles (NEVs), representing a 17.2% month-over-month increase and a 160% year-over-year surge. In the first half of 2024, total vehicle exports reached 5.096 million units, up 65.3% year-over-year, while NEV exports totaled 2.355 million units, more than doubling (up 120%) compared to the same period last year.
