Mercedes-AMG Unveils All-New CLA 45: Triple-Motor EV with 671 HP, 0-100 km/h in 2.7 Seconds

On July 9, Mercedes-AMG unveiled the all-new CLA 45, featuring a fully electric powertrain equipped with three axial-flux motors—two integrated into the rear-drive unit and one mounted on the front axle—to create a rear-biased all-wheel-drive layout with torque vectoring capability between the left and right rear wheels. In "Overboost" mode, the system delivers 671 horsepower, with a continuous output of 603 hp and peak torque of 1,759 N·m, enabling a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.7 seconds. The standard top speed is 250 km/h, which can be increased to 285 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package. The vehicle is powered by a 94 kWh battery pack—9 kWh larger than that of the standard all-electric CLA—and supports a maximum charging rate of 330 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 22 minutes. The sedan variant (CLT) offers a range exceeding 668 kilometers, while the Shooting Brake version achieves 637 kilometers. Curb weight approaches 2.3 metric tons. Exterior design retains the fundamental silhouette of the CLA but introduces larger wheels, redesigned front and rear bumpers, removal of the front light bar, widened front wheel arches, and the signature AMG Panamericana vertical-slat grille. Both body styles feature an active rear spoiler that remains flush with the body at low speeds and automatically deploys at higher speeds to enhance stability. Inside, the cabin features new bucket seats, a dedicated triple-screen display interface, and a redesigned steering wheel with added satellite controls for driving modes and scroll wheels on the spokes. The car also includes a simulated sound system that enables virtual gear shifts via steering-wheel paddles and faithfully reproduces the acoustic characteristics of the previous generation’s four-cylinder engine—including exhaust crackles and pops.
