Swedish electric vehicle maker Polestar has decided to exit the U.S. market due to U.S. government restrictions and insufficient profitability of its local operations. The company stated it will continue honoring warranty obligations for existing vehicles and providing maintenance services, while also continuing to sell remaining inventory of the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 models. Some recent buyers of used Polestar vehicles have expressed concern over the sharp decline in their cars’ residual value, feeling they’ve become the “last ones holding the bag” without receiving any compensation. Dealers across multiple U.S. regions also feel helpless in the face of the sudden exit announcement; although they trust the brand will fulfill its after-sales commitments, they question why they must bear business losses through no fault of their own. Previously, the U.S. government banned the sale of new Polestar EVs in the country, citing the "Principles on Connected Vehicles."
