In the first half of this year, South Korea registered a total of 851,833 new vehicles, an increase of 1.4% compared to the same period last year. Of these, sales of new energy vehicles—including hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles—reached 429,163 units, accounting for 50.4% of total sales, marking the first time in history that they surpassed the 50% threshold during the same period. By fuel type, gasoline-powered vehicles led sales with 331,814 units (39% of the total), followed by hybrids at 227,019 units (26.7%), battery electric vehicles at 198,969 units (23.4%), LPG vehicles at 63,142 units (7.4%), diesel vehicles at 27,410 units (3.2%), and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at 3,175 units (0.4%).
