Data shows that the vehicle replacement cycle for new energy vehicles (NEVs) is significantly shorter than that of conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. According to the "Annual Development Report on China's Automotive Aftermarket," released in 2025, the average age of ICE vehicles is 8.2 years, with over 60% of them being used for more than seven years, while NEVs have an average age of just 1.8 years. Previous data also indicated that NEV owners typically replace their vehicles every 3 to 5 years, compared to 6 to 8 years for ICE vehicle owners. As of June 2025, China had a total vehicle fleet of 370 million, with passenger cars aged over seven years accounting for more than 50% of the total. Meanwhile, used car transaction data from the same period showed that the average age of used ICE vehicles was 8.6 years, compared to 3.4 years for used NEVs.
