Seres Unveils Range-Extender Tech Data and Progress on Fifth-Gen System

During the 2026 International Automotive Powertrain Technology Conference, Seres Power revealed usage data for Aito vehicles: a cumulative driving distance of 32.2 billion kilometers, with over 70% of daily trips powered purely by electricity and approximately 30% of long-distance journeys supplemented by fuel-powered generation. Hang Jinfeng, Brand Planning Director at Seres Power, stated that this data reflects the practical value of range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) technology in real-world user scenarios. Seres Power has launched five generations of its range-extender systems. The fifth-generation system features the integrated “Seres Wing C2E” architecture, achieving end-to-end integration from fuel combustion to electrical output. It deeply integrates the engine and drive motor, and adopts a unified design for the vehicle control system and housing structure. The engine employs dual-cycle technology, delivering a thermal efficiency of 44.8%, with ongoing efforts targeting 50%. On the power generation side, a coaxial layout and dedicated cooling system reduce energy losses. Starting from the second generation, the system introduced a multi-point power generation strategy and pioneered the concept of “fuel-to-electric conversion efficiency,” actively contributing to the formulation of industry standards for range extenders. AI technology is now applied across both R&D and control domains: Seres’ self-developed AI-based virtual simulation toolchain accelerates development cycles, while the RoboREX intelligent range-extender control strategy dynamically forecasts energy demand using multidimensional data to optimize overall energy efficiency. In terms of NVH performance, the noise difference between range-extending operation and pure-electric driving is only 1 decibel. At this conference, Seres Power clearly redefined its strategic positioning—as a provider of intelligent energy powertrain solutions—emphasizing cross-domain synergy to address user pain points in energy usage. Its overseas product strategy is tailored to local regulations and energy infrastructure. In response to claims that “the range-extender segment is cooling down,” Seres Power views this as a sign of industry maturation and believes that range-extender technology will coexist with battery-electric solutions over the long term. The company also expressed its willingness to share R&D expertise with the broader industry to advance hybrid-electric technologies.
