Ferrari's First EV, the Luce, Sparks Design Debate; Marketing Chief Welcomes Public Reaction

Following the unveiling of Ferrari's first all-electric model, the Luce, its exterior design sparked widespread debate, with most enthusiasts criticizing its styling as bland and lacking the brand’s distinctive identity. In response, Emanuele Carando, Ferrari’s Global Marketing Director, acknowledged that the company anticipated strong and polarized reactions to the vehicle, though the actual intensity of public discourse exceeded expectations. He noted that the controversy has generated significant free publicity and emphasized that, as a highly scrutinized brand, Ferrari welcomes public feedback. Carando explained that the Luce was developed on a dedicated electric vehicle platform rather than being a simple electrified adaptation of existing internal combustion models like the Purosangue. Instead, the entire vehicle architecture was re-engineered—featuring a shortened front overhang, optimized cabin space, and a driver’s seat positioned closer to the front axle to enhance steering precision. Citing the Purosangue as an example, he pointed out that despite initial skepticism upon its 2022 debut, the model has since gained broad market acceptance.
