Bosch Launches Trial Production at First U.S. Semiconductor Plant with $225 Million in Government Funding

German automotive parts and chipmaker Bosch has started trial production at its first U.S. semiconductor factory. Located in Roseville, California, the facility was formerly owned by TSI Semiconductors and was acquired by Bosch in 2023 for conversion, with total project costs reaching $2 billion, including $225 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce. Both parties have reached an agreement aimed at enhancing domestic silicon carbide chip manufacturing capacity in the United States. The plant is scheduled to begin commercial mass production later this year. Previously, during President Trump’s administration, several automakers and suppliers had already expanded their U.S. manufacturing operations to mitigate tariff and geopolitical risks.
