Mercedes-Benz Expands Kecskemét Plant in Hungary, Launches All-Electric C-Class Production

On July 13, Mercedes-Benz announced the commencement of an expansion project at its Kecskemét plant in Hungary, alongside the start of series production of the new all-electric C-Class sedan. The facility’s footprint will grow from 200 hectares to 440 hectares, and its built-up area will double, making it Mercedes-Benz’s second-largest global production site and the largest automotive plant in Europe after completion. Currently employing 5,000 workers and producing over 100,000 vehicles annually, the plant aims to increase its annual capacity to 350,000 units and expand its workforce to between 9,000 and 10,000 employees. The expansion includes two new body shops, a new assembly hall, a second press shop, a new paint shop, and battery assembly facilities. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar and Mercedes-Benz Group CEO Ola Källenius arrived together in the new all-electric C-Class sedan. The launch of this model marks the first time the Kecskemét plant is producing a core fully electric Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
