Recently, multiple automakers have successively introduced "accident liability guarantee" policies for intelligent driving, explicitly assuming responsibility for accidents occurring under specific ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) scenarios. BYD is the earliest Chinese automaker to implement such a policy on a large scale and with the most transparent terms. It has rolled out a two-scenario protection plan in phases: - **Intelligent Parking Guarantee**: Effective for the vehicle’s lifetime starting July 2025. - **City NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) Guarantee**: Starting May 2026, new car buyers automatically receive one year of coverage upon delivery, and existing owners gain the same benefit after upgrading their systems. This policy operates under a direct compensation model by the automaker—no reliance on the owner’s commercial insurance, no payout cap, and included free of charge with the vehicle. However, it currently does not cover highway NOA scenarios. Huawei’s ADS (Autonomous Driving Solution), branded as "Yinwang," announced its “ADAS Peace-of-Mind Coverage” on June 22, 2026, covering three scenarios: urban NCA (Navigation Guided Cruise Assist), highway NCA, and intelligent parking. It offers up to three years of coverage under a “insurance-first, company-top-up” model, with compensation ranging from RMB 3 million to RMB 5 million. XPeng launched its “Smart Driving Peace-of-Mind Service” in April 2025 at an annual fee of RMB 239, covering two scenarios with a maximum payout of RMB 1 million. A distinctive feature is that it includes accidents occurring within five seconds after the ADAS disengages. This service requires customers to purchase commercial auto insurance through XPeng’s official channels and functions as supplementary coverage. Xiaomi Auto introduced dedicated intelligent driving protection at launch, partnering with insurers to offer time-limited one-year coverage with a maximum payout of RMB 3 million. Claims are first processed through the owner’s personal auto insurance, with Xiaomi covering any amount exceeding the policy limit. Additionally, Avatr launched its “Smart Driving Peace-of-Mind” service, offering up to RMB 6 million in coverage via a “insurance-first, company-compensation” approach. GAC Aion has also rolled out a smart driving safety guarantee, currently focused primarily on intelligent parking scenarios. NIO has not issued an official statement but its founder has publicly affirmed the company’s willingness to assume relevant liabilities, representing an “implicit guarantee” model. Currently, the industry’s intelligent driving liability guarantees fall into three main categories: 1. **Direct automaker compensation** (no involvement of third-party insurance), 2. **Hybrid model** where the automaker tops up after insurance payouts, and 3. **Implicit guarantees**, where companies assume responsibility without formal public announcements.
