The Hongqi G9 has officially been granted Beijing’s L3-level autonomous driving road test license, becoming the first vehicle approved to conduct L3 autonomous driving tests on Beijing roads at speeds up to 120 km/h. The vehicle employs a multi-sensor fusion solution combining LiDAR, vision, and millimeter-wave radar, featuring an automotive-grade 896-line LiDAR. It has completed four critical validations—functional safety, safety of intended functionality (SOTIF), cybersecurity, and data security—through simulation, closed-course testing, and meets regulatory requirements for full-lifecycle test data oversight. Its L3 system supports nighttime operation and enables autonomous driving at up to 120 km/h on expressways and highways, with capabilities including navigation-based lane changes, efficiency-oriented lane changes, and safety-driven lane changes, dynamically selecting lane-change strategies based on navigation routes, traffic efficiency, and surrounding risk factors. Positioned as a full-size SUV, the Hongqi G9 measures 5,206 mm (or 5,377 mm with extended roof) in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,897 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. All variants come standard with Huawei’s self-developed electric motors, all-wheel-drive system, and an 800V high-voltage extended-range platform, delivering a CLTC combined range exceeding 1,300 kilometers. The vehicle is equipped with three solid-state LiDAR units and a full-scenario driver assistance system. The model is scheduled for official launch in the third quarter and will debut Huawei’s latest communication technology. Previously released teaser images reveal a retractable roof structure that, when deployed, creates a tent-like overhead space.
