Toyota Halts Next-Gen EV Development, Cancels Lexus LF-ZC Project

From:Internet Info Agency 2026-07-15 14:20:15

Toyota Motor Corporation has decided to halt development of its next-generation battery electric vehicles (BEVs), including the Lexus sedan "LF-ZC," which was originally scheduled for launch in 2026. The LF-ZC was intended to feature new high-performance batteries and utilize integrated die-casting technology. Toyota officially announced the termination of this project on May 29, 2026. This decision is expected to significantly impact the supply chain, with some suppliers potentially facing losses of approximately 10 billion yen. To compensate affected parts manufacturers, Toyota plans to pay a total of several hundred billion yen in compensation. The strategic shift is closely tied to decisions made by newly appointed President Kenta Kon. Although the compensation expenses are not expected to substantially affect Toyota’s overall financial performance, the company forecasts that its consolidated net profit for fiscal year 2026 (ending March 2027) will decline by 22% year-over-year to 3 trillion yen. The aforementioned compensation costs could further exacerbate this earnings downturn.
