BYD has set a goal to become the world’s top-selling automaker by 2030, planning to achieve this growth without relying on the U.S. market and instead focusing on Europe. In 2023, BYD sold approximately 4.6 million vehicles globally, compared to Toyota’s 11.3 million. From January to April this year, BYD’s cumulative sales in Europe exceeded 120,000 units, nearly doubling year-over-year. In May, its market share in Europe reached 2.8%, double that of the same period last year, surpassing Ford, Tesla, and Nissan. The company aims to achieve annual overseas sales of 1.5 million vehicles by 2026 and further expand its European market share through competitive pricing.
