Volkswagen Unveils ID. Cross, Its Most Affordable EV SUV Overseas, Starting at €28,000

Volkswagen officially unveiled the production version of the ID. Cross in the early hours of July 16. Positioned below the ID.4, the ID. Cross is built on the MEB+ platform and features a front-wheel-drive layout, sharing its technical architecture with the new ID. Polo. The vehicle measures 4,153 mm in length, 1,974 mm in width, and 1,581 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,601 mm—38 mm longer than the T-Cross. It offers a 25-liter front trunk and a rear cargo capacity of 475 liters, which is 25 liters more than the gasoline-powered T-Cross. Inside, the ID. Cross returns to physical buttons, featuring tactile controls on the steering wheel, door panels, and center console—including a volume knob and dedicated HVAC shortcut keys. It comes equipped with a 12.9-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, with interface design cues inspired by the original Golf. Higher trims offer 12-way power-adjustable front seats with massage and memory functions, along with a 425-watt Harman Kardon audio system comprising 10 speakers and a subwoofer. The ID. Cross offers three front-mounted electric motor options, delivering 85 kW, 99 kW, and 155 kW of power, respectively. Two battery options are available: a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack and a 52 kWh ternary lithium pack. Under WLTP standards, these provide ranges of 316 km and 436 km, respectively. Maximum charging rates are 90 kW and 105 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 23–24 minutes. Curb weights are 1,539 kg for the smaller-battery version and 1,548 kg for the larger-battery variant, excluding driver weight. The ID. Cross will launch in Europe in autumn 2024, with a starting price in Germany of €28,000, making it Volkswagen’s most affordable all-electric SUV currently offered in overseas markets. For comparison, the entry-level ID.4 starts at €46,765, while the updated ID.3 Neo is priced from €33,995.
