Lei Jun Addresses Concerns Over Xiaomi Pengcheng’s Fuel Consumption, Noise, and Interior Space

On the morning of July 17, Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, solicited user questions on social media regarding the range-extending system of Xiaomi's Pengcheng vehicle models. In response to netizens' concerns about fuel consumption under low-battery conditions, operational noise, and maintenance costs, Lei stated that the model features low fuel consumption when the battery is depleted, low overall usage and maintenance costs, and effective noise control during the start-up and operation of the range extender. When asked about the total driving range with a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, Lei simply replied, "Very long," without disclosing specific figures. Regarding whether trunk cargo capacity affects seating space in the third row, he confirmed it does not. The previous afternoon, Lei had released data from Xiaomi's car owner survey: 70% of owners drive no more than 400 kilometers per week, and 85% travel less than 400 kilometers on weekdays. He noted that the Pengcheng series’ CLTC-rated all-electric range of 505 km meets the needs of most users for weekly charging once, and the addition of a range extender effectively alleviates range anxiety. According to publicly available information, the Xiaomi Pengcheng N70 and N90 models offer a maximum CLTC all-electric range of 505 km, powered by a battery pack with a maximum capacity of 76 kWh.
