XPeng Targets Europe's Mid-to-Premium Segment, Distinguishing Its Approach from BYD's

During a group media interview following the global launch of the XPeng MONA L03, He Xiaopeng, Chairman of XPeng Motors, addressed questions regarding differences between XPeng and BYD in overseas markets. He stated that the two companies adopt distinct international expansion strategies, each with its own development logic. XPeng focuses on technological innovation integrating hardware and software, aiming to establish itself as a mid-to-high-end brand in Europe without prioritizing sales volume above all else. He revealed that XPeng is actively negotiating partnerships with multiple European companies, including deepening its collaboration with Volkswagen to advance more joint initiatives. He emphasized the company’s open-minded approach and willingness to cooperate broadly with various enterprises. On the topic of technological leadership, He Xiaopeng said he is more focused on how technology-driven products can serve more users and improve accessibility. He noted that XPeng’s R&D investment in the coming years could reach several times its current level. To date, XPeng Group has surpassed 1.2 million cumulative global deliveries. The MONA L03 is being launched simultaneously in China and Europe. XPeng has established a European R&D center in Munich and initiated localized production at Magna’s facility in Austria. Additionally, the company is working closely with supply chain partners such as Bosch and BASF, collaborating with over 150 dealers to expand its presence across Europe. Currently, five XPeng models are available in Europe, with the G9 and G6 ranking as the top-selling Chinese-brand vehicles in their respective segments across multiple countries. Regarding charging infrastructure, XPeng plans to deploy over 4,000 self-operated ultra-fast charging stations across Europe by 2028. Its new X Energy Megawatt Ultra Storage & Charging Station—featuring energy storage, 10C ultra-fast charging, and AI-powered diagnostics—is set to debut in Europe soon, delivering a maximum output power of up to 1 MW.
