Shenzhen Cyberspace Authority Condemns Malicious Hype Over BYD Battery Safety; Accounts Suspended

The Shenzhen Cyberspace Affairs Office recently released typical cases from the special campaign titled “Clear and Bright: Optimizing the Online Business Environment by Cracking Down on Malicious Hype and False Information Targeting Enterprises.” Among them, the online account “Cai Shen Dao” was specifically named for fabricating and disseminating false information that damaged a company’s business reputation. On May 6 of this year, the account holder purchased a Fangchengbao TITAN 3 vehicle without license plates at their own expense. Without preserving the original factory protective structures, they removed the vehicle’s underbody shield, the outer thermal insulation aerogel layer around the battery cells, and structural adhesives. They then directly attached temperature sensors onto the surface of the battery cells to conduct a live-streamed test of BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery MegaFlash fast-charging capability. When charging reached 93%, their external sensor recorded a peak temperature of 76.42°C, while the vehicle’s original battery management system (BMS) showed 71°C—a difference of approximately 5°C. Based on this discrepancy, the account posted content claiming “fast-charging batteries pose safety risks due to high temperatures,” sparking public concern over battery safety. In response, BYD stated that national standards require battery tests to maintain the original factory’s complete sealed structure and liquid-cooling thermal insulation system. The test in question deliberately compromised the thermal protection layers and altered the original heat dissipation environment, rendering the measured temperature data invalid for reference. Furthermore, BYD emphasized that the safety threshold of its second-generation Blade Battery is significantly higher than 76°C, and the recorded temperature did not reach the warning threshold, making the testing methodology unscientific. Following complaints, the related video was taken down. Subsequently, the account conducted another live stream in which it violently dismantled an intact high-voltage battery pack using tools such as an angle grinder, circular saw, and hammer, without implementing professional insulation or fire safety measures—violating established safety protocols for high-voltage battery disassembly. During the broadcast, the platform immediately shut down the live stream, citing dangerous operations and incitement of negative public opinion. Currently, the account has been subjected to penalties by relevant platforms in accordance with laws and platform regulations, including suspension of posting privileges and disabling of monetization features.
