Xiaomi Auto Explains Why Pengcheng Models Use 76kWh Battery

Xiaomi Auto recently explained why its Pengcheng model features a 76 kWh battery pack, stating that this design stems from the core philosophy of its range-extended product line: "long pure-electric range." This approach aims to enable users to drive primarily in pure-electric mode for most daily scenarios, only activating the range extender during long-distance trips to ensure continuity of the pure-electric driving experience. All Pengcheng variants come equipped with a maximum 76 kWh battery, delivering up to 505 km of pure-electric range under CLTC conditions and 380 km under WLTC conditions. According to the company, since most users primarily rely on their vehicles for urban commuting and short trips—typically covering only tens of kilometers per day—this range can comfortably meet daily mobility needs for an entire week or even longer without frequent charging or needing to engage the range extender. This preserves the quietness, smoothness, and lower operating costs characteristic of pure electric vehicles. A smaller battery capacity would likely require recharging every two to three days and necessitate using the range extender even for moderately longer trips, thereby diminishing the core advantages of new energy vehicles. While real-world range may vary depending on driving habits, ambient temperature, air conditioning usage, and other factors, the presence of the range-extending system means users don’t need to deliberately reserve battery buffer in daily use, making vehicle operation more convenient.
