The fifth-generation BMW X5 (chassis code G65) made its global debut on June 30, 2024, with the rear-wheel-drive variant, the X5 40, scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2027. The new model adopts BMW’s latest design language, featuring an interior layout similar to that of the i3 and the updated 7 Series, equipped with a standard 17.9-inch central touchscreen and an optional 14.6-inch passenger-side display. With dimensions of 4,994 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,751 mm in height—and a wheelbase of 3,035 mm—the new X5 is 5.6 cm longer and 1.5 cm lower than the current generation. It will be offered with five powertrain options: gasoline, plug-in hybrid, all-electric, diesel, and hydrogen fuel cell. The U.S.-spec X5 40 is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 394 horsepower and approximately 580 Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid X5 50e pairs the same engine with a 26.5 kWh battery, delivering a combined output of 489 horsepower. Over the coming years, this model is expected to partially assume the market position currently held by the iX globally.
