BMW M2 with Track Package Debuts at Goodwood Festival of Speed After Setting Nürburgring Lap Record

At the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, BMW unveiled two M models: a unique M3 Touring 24H race-inspired estate and a standard G87 M2 equipped with the M Performance Track Kit. The M3 Touring 24H, driven by racer Jordan Pepper, completed Sunday’s timed shootout in 46.54 seconds, finishing fifth. This placed it behind the Ford Super Mustang Mach-E (41.97s), the Formula E Gen4 car (42.46s), the Shadow-Chevrolet DN4 (46.30s), and the Volkswagen Polo WRX (46.31s). The all-time hill climb record at Goodwood remains the 39.08 seconds set in 2022 by Max Chilton in the McMurtry Spéirling electric racer. The displayed M2 did not compete in the official timed event; instead, it was used for dynamic demonstrations to showcase its active front splitter and "swan-neck" rear wing in operation. BMW emphasized that a more significant performance validation for the M2 occurred just 12 days earlier at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. On May 22, 2024, a standard M2 fitted with the Track Kit—but without any powertrain upgrades—posted a lap time of 7 minutes 20 seconds under challenging conditions: high ambient temperatures and oil residue on the track at Turn 13. This beat the previous M2 CS record of 7:25.50, set one year earlier, by 5.5 seconds. This lap time improvement was achieved entirely through aerodynamic and chassis enhancements, as the engine remained the stock S58 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six. The M Performance Track Kit includes a carbon-fiber swan-neck rear wing derived from the M4 GT4 and M4 GT3 race cars, a manually adjustable front splitter, a four-way adjustable coilover suspension system (with independent rebound and compression damping control), up to 20 mm of ride height reduction, adjustable top mounts, plus wheel arch diffusers and small endplates on the front splitter. All components comply with Germany’s StVZO road regulations, making them street-legal—though when used on public roads, the aerodynamic elements must remain in their standard positions. The kit went on sale in Germany in July 2024, priced at €23,500 (approximately RMB 182,000, excluding taxes and installation). BMW has not ruled out offering the Track Kit for a future M2 CS, but considers it unlikely for the newly launched M2 xDrive due to its added weight. The G87 M2 is expected to remain in production until the end of the decade, leaving room for potential high-performance variants such as the rumored M2 CSL.
