On July 16, China Baowu and Dongfeng Motor Corporation signed their fourth round of a deepened strategic cooperation agreement and jointly inaugurated the Advanced Materials Joint Innovation Center. Building upon over two decades of collaboration, the two parties have comprehensively upgraded their cooperation framework in areas including technological innovation, industrial and supply chain coordination, and automotive products and services. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–2025), the two companies jointly overcame six critical "bottleneck" technologies and developed 11 advanced materials processing technologies, enabling large-scale application of new materials that effectively reduced vehicle weight and enhanced Dongfeng’s product competitiveness. In terms of the industrial and supply chain, China Baowu—Dongfeng’s largest strategic steel supplier—delivered more than 5.3 million tons of steel during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, accounting for over 50% of Dongfeng’s total steel procurement, with its passenger vehicle segment alone exceeding 80%. This has established a stable raw material supply system for Dongfeng. In the field of green and low-carbon development, both parties achieved scalable breakthroughs in the application of new energy solutions and green steel, supporting Dongfeng’s carbon reduction goals. Looking ahead, the two sides will further deepen collaboration to co-build an integrated production-supply ecosystem and advance Dongfeng’s “East Wind Rising 2030” initiative. Attending the signing ceremony were Hu Wangming, Party Secretary and Chairman of China Baowu; Hou Angui, General Manager of China Baowu; and Yang Qing, Chairman of Dongfeng Motor Corporation. Gao Jianbing, Deputy General Manager of China Baowu, and Huang Yong, Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective companies. Representatives from Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Baosteel) and the Dean of Dongfeng Motor’s R&D Institute jointly unveiled the plaque for the Joint Innovation Center.
