Over 90% of EV Users Prefer DC Fast Charging as Cross-Network Charging Becomes the Norm

The China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, in collaboration with multiple companies, has released the "2025 Research Report on Electric Vehicle User Charging Behavior." The report reveals that 95.4% of EV users prefer DC fast charging and have an urgent demand for high-power charging facilities exceeding 120 kW; 66.85% of users favor charging stations equipped with ancillary services. Additionally, 87% of users charge across different operators, on average utilizing services from six distinct charging network providers. The report notes that the charging industry has transitioned from extensive expansion to a phase focused on high quality and efficiency, with user value now serving as the core driver. Current challenges include mismatches between charging supply and demand and uneven utilization rates across charging stations. It recommends prioritizing the deployment of charging infrastructure above 120 kW in key urban commercial districts and transportation hubs, implementing differentiated and premium service pricing models, and expanding the “charging+” service ecosystem. Aggregation platforms can leverage digital tools to enable cross-operator functions such as “one-click charger location” and “price comparison.” AI-powered technologies and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration are identified as critical enablers for upgrading charging networks, with future applications spanning charging behavior prediction, intelligent scheduling, station operations, customer service, and maintenance management—ultimately enhancing resource allocation efficiency and user experience.
