Toyota has confirmed that the next-generation Corolla will include a fully electric version, built on an all-new platform capable of supporting multiple powertrain configurations—including battery electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid, and internal combustion engine variants. Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota, stated that the Corolla, with cumulative global sales exceeding 57 million units, holds symbolic significance for the company. Facing mounting competitive pressure from automakers like Tesla and BYD, Toyota has developed a strong sense of urgency internally and is accelerating product innovation. During a recent public program, Toyota showcased the development process of the next-generation Corolla and acknowledged gaps compared to certain Chinese automakers in terms of development cycle and production efficiency. Previously, at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023, Toyota unveiled a Corolla concept car, previewing the new platform’s multi-energy compatibility.
