Hongqi G9 Secures Beijing L3 Autonomous Driving Test License and Hits the Road

The Hongqi G9 has obtained Beijing’s L3-level autonomous driving road test license, becoming the first vehicle approved to conduct L3-level autonomous driving road tests in Beijing at speeds up to 120 km/h. The vehicle has already shed its camouflage and begun on-road testing, bearing prominent markings that read “L3-Level Autonomous Driving Road Test.” The model employs a multi-sensor fusion solution combining LiDAR, vision, and millimeter-wave radar, equipped with an automotive-grade 896-line LiDAR. It has completed four key validations—functional safety, safety of intended functionality (SOTIF), cybersecurity, and data security—through simulation and closed-course testing, fulfilling regulatory requirements for full-lifecycle test data oversight. Its L3 system supports nighttime operation and enables autonomous driving at up to 120 km/h on expressways and highways, featuring navigation-based lane changes, efficiency-oriented lane changes, and safety-driven lane changes, dynamically selecting lane-change strategies based on navigation routes, traffic efficiency, and surrounding risk factors. Positioned as a full-size SUV, the Hongqi G9 measures 5,206 mm (or 5,377 mm with rear-mounted spare tire) in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,897 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. All variants come standard with Huawei’s self-developed electric motors, all-wheel-drive system, and an 800V high-voltage extended-range platform, delivering a CLTC combined range exceeding 1,300 kilometers. It is also equipped with three solid-state LiDAR units, enabling full-scenario advanced driver-assistance capabilities.
