The Range Rover GT made its global debut on July 22 as the fourth model in the Range Rover family and the first to feature a fastback silhouette. Built on the new EMA platform, it is positioned above rivals such as the BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz all-electric GLC, and Volvo EX60. The vehicle’s dimensions exceed those of the Range Rover Velar, with a length approaching that of the Range Rover Sport, while its lower, sleeker stance clearly distinguishes it from the traditional Range Rover SUV profile. The Range Rover GT is not a successor to the Velar, which will continue to be sold in gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid variants in the near term. The GT is offered exclusively with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive electric powertrain. Although its lowered ride height compromises some off-road capability, Land Rover states the vehicle maintains full performance in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to 50°C. It is also billed as “the quietest Range Rover ever,” with aerodynamic enhancements improving both range and cabin serenity. Inside, the minimalist design language continues, featuring a high-mounted instrument panel and a large horizontal central touchscreen. Physical buttons have been significantly reduced, gear selection has moved to steering column-mounted paddles, and climate controls are now integrated into the screen interface. Non-leather materials come standard, and the center console can be opened to reveal cupholders and storage compartments. The rear cabin adopts a two-seat layout with a fixed central armrest; thanks to the dedicated EV architecture, legroom approaches that of the full-size Range Rover. Despite the sloping roofline, headroom and door apertures remain generous, further enhanced by a panoramic glass roof that maximizes natural light. The infotainment system runs on an entirely new software architecture with shorter user pathways. Originally conceived to accommodate multiple powertrain types, the EMA platform was later re-engineered as EV-exclusive before being revised again to support both hybrid and fully electric variants. The Range Rover GT is the first model to utilize the EMA platform, which will subsequently underpin mid-size and smaller vehicles. The second EMA-based model is expected to be an all-new Defender Sport—more compact and affordable, potentially replacing the Discovery Sport. The Range Rover Evoque may also be consolidated into this new lineup. Land Rover describes the GT’s pricing as “surprisingly attractive.”
