Toyota has confirmed that the next-generation Corolla will include a fully electric version, developed on a new platform capable of supporting multiple powertrain configurations—including battery electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid, and internal combustion engine variants. As part of a model line with over 57 million units sold globally, the Corolla holds symbolic significance for Toyota. Facing intense competition from automakers like Tesla and BYD, Toyota has developed a strong sense of urgency internally and is accelerating its product innovation efforts. During a recent public program, Toyota showcased the development process of the next-generation Corolla and acknowledged gaps between its own development cycle and production efficiency compared to certain Chinese automakers. Previously, at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023, Toyota unveiled a Corolla concept car, previewing the new platform’s multi-energy compatibility.
