Recently, an automotive blogger tested the screen-based gear-shifting feature of the U.S.-spec Tesla Model X in Los Angeles. In this vehicle, once the driver fastens their seatbelt and presses the brake pedal, the car automatically shifts into Reverse; when the vehicle is straightened and the steering wheel is turned, the system automatically switches to Drive. In situations requiring frequent adjustments near obstacles, turning the steering wheel while the car is stationary automatically engages Reverse, and pressing the accelerator again seamlessly shifts the car back into Drive. The blogger noted that the practicality of screen-based shifting heavily relies on the automatic gear-selection feature—without it, relying solely on screen controls might not be ideal. He previously purchased a Model 3 lacking physical gear and wiper stalks and paid out of pocket to install these components himself the day after taking delivery.
