Ford and Geely to Jointly Build European EVs, First Model Enters Production in 2028

On July 23, Ford Motor Company and Geely Automobile announced in Valencia, Spain, that they have reached an agreement to establish a joint venture to co-develop multi-energy vehicle products for the European market. The joint venture is expected to commence operations in the first half of 2027, with its first all-new model scheduled to roll off the production line in 2028. The two companies will share Ford’s existing manufacturing plant in Valencia, which has an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 vehicles. The facility will serve as the joint venture’s advanced manufacturing hub, aimed at improving capacity utilization, enhancing product development efficiency, reducing development costs, and creating additional high-skilled local jobs. The joint venture will continue producing the current Ford Kuga model and plans to launch a new member of the Ford Bronco family—a rugged compact SUV—in 2028. Additionally, it will introduce a new Ford-branded crossover, primarily designed by Ford and co-developed with Geely, also slated for production in 2028. Geely will produce two new energy vehicle models at the Valencia plant, with the first one scheduled for production in 2028. This collaboration aims to accelerate Geely’s localization strategy in the European market and represents a further step in synergizing the two automakers’ efforts amid the ongoing transition toward new energy vehicles.
