Recently, Zhengzhou Nissan exported 900 new energy vehicles (NEVs) to Latin American markets. These vehicles were primarily designed and developed by a Chinese team, marking the first time such models have been introduced to the global market. Previously, foreign brands mainly treated China as a sales market, importing overseas models to generate profits. However, since 2020, accelerated transformation in China’s NEV sector, the rise of domestic brands, and weakening domestic demand have posed significant challenges to foreign automakers’ business models in China. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the market share of Chinese-brand passenger vehicles has risen from less than 40% in 2020 to over 70% in the first half of 2026, while foreign brands have seen a notable decline in their market share. This export milestone underscores the growing global competitiveness of China’s automotive industry and reflects a new strategic shift by Chinese brands in expanding their global footprint.
