ZF's Electronic Power Steering (EPS) systems have surpassed 100 million units in global production. Since their initial launch in 2001, these systems have gradually replaced traditional hydraulic steering systems, becoming a core component of modern vehicle architectures and enabling the automotive industry’s transition toward software-defined vehicles. EPS consumes electricity only during steering maneuvers, helping reduce overall vehicle energy consumption and meet increasingly stringent efficiency and emissions standards. Currently, ZF offers three EPS configurations, compatible with all vehicle segments and supporting flexible customization. Continuous software enhancements open new possibilities for improving vehicle performance, driving experience, and customer value. As a key enabler of software-defined vehicles, EPS also lays the foundation for the development of next-generation steer-by-wire systems. ZF’s steer-by-wire technology has already entered global mass production and is now locally manufactured in China. Since commencing local mass production in China in 2012, ZF’s Asia-Pacific Steering division has cumulatively produced more than 25 million EPS units, covering the entire value chain from R&D and manufacturing to sales. This milestone of 100 million units results from ZF’s global R&D and production footprint, which enables rapid technological iteration alongside efficient high-volume manufacturing. Looking ahead, ZF will focus on intelligent and electrified solutions to advance its next-generation steering technologies.
