Li Auto's Self-Developed Safety Fusion Controller Achieves ASIL D Certification

On July 23, 2024, Li Auto’s self-developed Advanced Safety Control Unit (ACU) received the highest Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL D) certification under the ISO 26262 functional safety standard, awarded by SGS, a leading certification body. Serving as the central hub of the occupant protection system, the ACU is responsible for precisely triggering airbags, seatbelts, and other safety devices during emergencies such as collisions. This certification confirms that the controller’s entire development chain—including hardware, low-level software, operating system, and application algorithms—fully complies with the highest functional safety requirements of ISO 26262. Developed entirely in-house using full-stack proprietary technology, the ACU enables seamless data integration between passive and active safety systems, achieving deep coordination and 100% fusion across perception, decision-making, and execution stages. According to Zhao Hui, Vice President of SGS China, this marks the first globally certified ASIL D project by SGS involving a safety fusion controller fully developed in-house by an OEM. ASIL D represents the highest level of automotive functional safety, requiring the system to reliably detect faults, manage risks, and execute necessary safety measures—even in the event of failures in chips, communication modules, sensors, or software—to ensure critical safety functions operate dependably during emergencies.
