GM to Launch Next-Gen Cadillac Gas Models in Spring 2027 Through 2028

General Motors plans to launch a new generation of Cadillac internal combustion engine (ICE) models in spring 2027, with additional related products rolling out through 2028. While the company has not disclosed specific model details, industry analysts expect the first new vehicle to be the second-generation Cadillac XT5 crossover, followed by updates to the CT5 sedan and XT6 SUV. These new ICE models will complement Cadillac’s existing lineup of electric SUVs, including the Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq, and Escalade IQ EV. GM CEO Mary Barra stated that the company has not observed a clear consumer shift toward smaller-displacement, high-fuel-efficiency vehicles. Instead, it sees strong ongoing demand for full-size pickups and SUVs. Her remarks come amid rising international oil prices driven by heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, even as some competitors report significant growth in hybrid vehicle sales. However, GM’s Q2 2026 sales data show declining sales across several of its large ICE models: Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe sales fell 20.4% and 8.1% year-over-year, respectively; Silverado lineup sales declined between 0.9% and 29.4%; GMC Yukon sales dropped 3.9%, and Sierra HD sales fell 8.3%; Cadillac Escalade sales decreased by 5.9%. The only bright spots in the quarter were the GMC Sierra and its electric counterpart, the Sierra EV, which posted sales increases of 11.3% and 15.2%, respectively—adding a combined 6,955 units, a modest gain with limited overall impact. Currently, GM maintains a limited presence in the hybrid segment, offering only the Corvette E-Ray—a hybrid powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine—and continues to prioritize its strategy around fully electric vehicles.
