BYD RACCO Mini EV Launches in Japan, Meets Kei Car Standards with Premium Trim

On July 28, BYD Japan launched its new micro electric vehicle, the RACCO, with a starting pre-tax price of ¥2,145,000 (approximately RMB 88,747). The vehicle qualifies for a ¥150,000 subsidy from the Japanese government. Designed to meet Japan’s Kei Car dimensional standards, the RACCO measures 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, featuring an ultra-high roof design. It is Japan’s first all-electric Kei car equipped with power-sliding side doors. The RACCO offers two battery options: the base model comes with a 22.4 kWh battery delivering a range of 210 km, while the higher-spec version features a 35.84 kWh battery offering up to 320 km of range. The vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 50 kW. Its rear seats fold completely flat, creating a maximum cargo capacity of 1,372 liters. The RACCO is packed with features rarely found in its segment, including foot-activated power-sliding doors, NFC smartphone key access, an onboard charging card, battery pre-conditioning, heated cup holders, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, Level 2 ADAS driver-assistance systems, vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power supply capability, six airbags, a 10.1-inch central infotainment display, synthetic leather upholstery, and a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The RACCO is available in six exterior colors and two interior color schemes. The top-tier 300 Premium trim features a black-and-beige dual-tone interior and is exclusively offered with Arctic White or Cheese Yellow exterior finishes.
